Kiln Firing Service

The Potter’s Shop kiln room consists of one 2.6 cu.ft., four 7 cu.ft., and one 10 cu.ft. electric cone 6 kilns.

 
Rules:

1. We expect your pieces to be constructed and glazed correctly. If your glaze runs onto the shelves you will be charged for shelf cleaning or a new kiln shelf. 

2. If your work blows up in the kiln and ruins other people’s work, you will be charged accordingly.

3. Any items not picked up within 30 days of the completion will be considered abandoned, becomes property of studio and may be discarded or donated.

4. Clay must be previously purchased from The Potter's Shop with a record in our computer system.

Non Member Kiln Firing 

If you’ve got some pottery that you’ve made at home, in a class, or somewhere else and would like to have it fired in our kilns, The Potters’ Shop offers bisque and glaze firing services in our electric kilns.

  • Turn-around time depends on the current schedule but is generally one week
  • Work must be completely dry
  • We DO NOT FIRE the following: glass, items stuffed with paper, metal, or any other non-clay items
  • The bottom of pieces need to be cleaned unless using stilts. Individuals are responsible for providing their own stilts.
  • Please note: Kilns will be loaded and unloaded by The Potter’s Shop studio technicians only

The charges below include loading and unloading the kilns. 

Bisque Kiln Firing: Cone 06 - Cone 04

Firing per pound = $3.50/lb
(20% off for 10+ Pieces per/lb only)

Glaze Kiln Firing: Cone 05 - Cone 5

Firing per pound = $4.50/lb
(20% off for 10+ Pieces per/lb only)

2.6 CUBIC FT = $75.00
7.0 CUBIC FT = $125.00
9.9 CUBIC FT = $175.00
(20% upcharge for Cone 6 Glaze firing)

Member Kiln Firing:

  • Firing per pound: bisque, glaze, and usage of studio glazes. Staff loads & unloads
  • Glaze kilns fire to Cone 5.  
  • Reserve a kiln:  $25-$50 per kiln load depending on kiln size.
  • Additional charges apply for Cone 6 glaze firing, slow cool firing, and extended preheats.

Reserved kilns need to be paid for in full prior to firing.  Members are allowed to share kiln loads; however, a full load needs to be paid for by 1 member.
